First Ontario Performing Arts Centre – Story of a Steinway

Commissioned by The First Ontario Performing Arts Centre to showcase the anonymous donation of the Steinway piano that now resides there.

I was asked to take existing footage of the piano selection process from the factory in Astoria, NY, mix it with Steinway supplied footage from 1929 and draw a link to the Steinway piano arriving onsite in the brand new Performing Arts Centre in St. Catharines.

I interviewed the principal architect to talk about the main concert hall the piano would live in, time lapsed the build and setup, and selected John Sherwood, mainly for his Oscar Peterson-esque delivery of “C-Jam” to be interviewed and to play something.

The last shot with his amazing crescendo is completely live with no audio cuts or filters on the camera.
